Years racing / number of races participated in:
1 year racing, 2 races!! |
Favorite team training regimen:
Any time we can actually train as a team... our favorite place to bike, hike and run is the trails of Lime Creek Nature Center. |
Favorite foods/drink during an adventure race:
WATER... we've discovered Clif Bars and Hammer Gel work well! Before the race we like bagels, fruit and a bit of protein! Of course, a favorite for Brian is food he finds in his pack from a previous race (last year)!! |
Best advice or tip our team can pass along to others:
Work on navigation... an area that can always be improved! Train outside of your town (especially when you live in flat Mason City and you participate in SOAR!!) Don't forget to eat and drink... ditto BIKEIOWA's "Don't Bonk". |
Best adventure race memories:
For a team with a short history, completing our first two races successfully has been very rewarding. We enjoyed the 2005 SOAR Adventure Challenge, which provided a great first exposure to adventure racing. We look forward to many more races, improving and learning along the way! |
Worst adventure race memory:
106 heat index... need I say more?! Searching for a CP in a marsh for 20 minutes then spotting it across the water! A half-hour detour in our last race -- that was no fault of our own. |
Team motto or quote:
"Try not to lose your patients!!" -- Code Purple (our team name) is the code for a missing/lost patient in the clinic where Matt, Joel, and Brian's wife work. Also not a bad motto for adventure racing ... where sometimes your patience is tested and other times you're just lost! |
Next race you'll see our team at:
SOAR Adventure Challenge... the long course!!! |
