Years racing / number of races participated in:
Adventure racing: 1 race (SOAR 2005) Running: both of us since high school, 5 marathons each (too many races to count!) Cycling: 20+ for Dave (road and mountain bike) and 5 for Dee (mountain bike only) |
Favorite team training regimen:
Long gravel rides! Most recent ride rocked: 50 mile gravel ride to Panora, then a night in the Peddlers Inn, a new B&B, then 45 gravel miles home! Great training and great fun! |
Favorite foods/drink during an adventure race:
Power Gel, chocolate is Dave's fave -- tastes like pudding! Snickers is a close 2nd! For drink, any energy drink with a teaspoon of salt. Salt...the secret weapon! |
Best advice or tip our team can pass along to others:
Get used to a compass and map! |
Best adventure race memories:
During the first navigation phase of SOAR 2005, our strategy was to spend lots of time garnering points in the woods while other teams may just be going for the required number. We anticipated coming into the canoe near last place, but as we ran to the checkpoint the volunteers cheered us on with "You're team #2!" We were pumped! |
Worst adventure race memory:
The long gravel road into Wesley Woods (SOAR 2005) after Nav#2... 100+ degrees and out of water... that was a looonnngggg road! |
Team motto or quote:
