SOAR Navigation Training Day
Date: April 8th, 2006
Time: 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Location: Margo Frankel Woods State Park , NE Des Moines, Iowa
With spring officially here, so is the training season! We thought it would fun to get out and scrub the rust off some of the navigation skills, so on Saturday, April 8th at 11:00 a.m. we will be hosting a navigation training day at Margo Frankel Woods State Park. The park is located just south of Ankeny on NW 2nd St, near Woodland Hills golf course. We will meet at the park entrance on the southwest corner of the park, off of NW 2nd St. Just inside the park is a playground and parking area where we will hand out maps and allow people to take off on their own around the park. We are estimating that it will take individuals and teams approximately 1-2 hours to complete the 15 checkpoints planned within the park.
We are more than welcome to talk with people about some of our navigation tips and how we navigate, for those who wish some instruction before heading out. In the past, we've split up and gone with some of the newer racers to help talk through some of the different situations they will run into. There are places within the park where thorns and nettles are present, so you'll want to dress appropriately. We suggest you bring your own compass for the event as well as anything else you would like, such as water or food. Maps will be provided.
Please let us know if you are interested in attending the event, so we can print up enough maps.
